Like a Toddler
When I reach for your hand I expect it to be there like always. No matter what you grab it back without hesitation. That’s what makes you so amazing God! I often pull my hand away saying “I’ve got this!” But in reality that’s when I need you the most. I’ve learned to hang onto your hand even when you feel far away.
Right now I need to hang onto your hand like a toddler would. I just want you to be so close as I struggle with my pain again. I need you to comfort me. Holding your hand feels so comforting. Can you walk with me as I navigate what is next? Can you guide me to what decision is best for my future? Can you grant me the wisdom I need? Can you grant me the patience I will need? Can you put people in my path that will help me? I know the answer to all of those questions is yes.
Like a toddler I want some independence but also depend on you so deeply. Like a toddler I will fall down as I let go of your hand, but you will be there to pick me back up and put me back on the right path. Like a toddler’s mother you want me to learn but also come back to you when I need you. Like a toddler’s mother you love me unconditionally.
You give me what I need. You let me lean on you. You let me rest in your peace. Yes, that is what I need. Just wrap me up tight like a toddler’s mother would in bed.
