The Light God Left On
I wrote this piece many years ago now. I re-read it today and wanted to post this message:
Off in the distance you see a bright light shining. You begin to walk towards it not knowing that what to expect. The closer you get to the light the brighter it gets. Fear sets in when you are so close to the light that you can almost touch it. You get scared and stop in your tracks not knowing if you should continue walking towards the light. But for those that have walked even closer to the light, they have gotten a reward that is so amazing that it cannot be explained.
Walking towards the light is amazing. The light is known as God. Trusting God is not always easy, but for those that have walked towards God trusting Him completely they have experienced something that is priceless. It is the gift of the light.
All you need to do to experience the gift of the light is to walk towards it and trust in God completely. God left the light on for you to seek. He wants you to find Him, which is why His light is the brightest light.
Openness is the key to experiencing the gift of the light. God wants you to seek the light that He has left on. Becoming open to experiencing this gift is key. This openness though takes some patience and willingness to learn. Along your path of seeking God, God teaches you about His character as well as things He would like you to learn. Remaining open to this learning is key. It is through this learning that you begin to experience the gift of the light.
After you have begun to trust the light, you walk towards the light you even begin to walk side by side with the light and sometimes that light even becomes a part of who you are. As you walk with the light you experience amazing things. Describing how walking with the light feels like is difficult. The best example of how this may feel is Peter taking a step out of the boat during the storm. Peter trusted that Jesus would not let him down and decided to take a step out of the boat walking on the water towards Jesus. During the moments that Peter was walking on the water he was filled with the spirit and overjoyed with just how awesome God is. He was able to experience the gift of the light in a way that no one ever had experience this gift. Peter began to understand how awesome God is through his water walking experience with Jesus, even though it only lasted a few moments.
