The Perfect Moment

women at window with raindrops

The other day it happened to be raining out. It was wonderful to have the rain seeing as it has been very dry lately. At one point, I noticed the sky getting brighter. I quickly ran over to the window to check for a rainbow. Sadly, I was disappointed, but I knew in my heart that there was going to be a rainbow, but I was just too early.

You see, a friend of mine, her grandma was in her last days, so I knew there was going to be a rainbow. God has shown me rainbows before around the time of people’s deaths. It continued to get brighter outside and I made my way to the window again and again. But was disappointed the next two visits to the window. Then on the fourth visit it was finally bright enough to see a rainbow. I was elated! I knew God was going to show up and he did. His timing might not have been my timing, but the rainbow showed up at exactly the right time where the amount of sun, rain, and clouds were just enough for that beautiful display of colors across the sky.

We live in a time where it seems like you can get everything in an instant. Oh, I’m out of glue sticks and I’m in the middle of making a card. I’ll just pop online to Target.com put in an order to pick it up in the store later today. Whoosh, order completed! In another moment, I need to find an image of an individual sitting in a lawn chair. I open up Google Chrome and type in the search box, navigate to the image tab and type in “someone sitting in lawn chair” and there you have it, tons of images of people sitting in lawn chairs! Now I am hungry, let me see what I have in the pantry. Oh, a meal I can heat up in just one minute. Walah, an instant meal! But then there are times were there are just so many choices it becomes hard to make a decision. Enter online dating. You search through thousands of profiles and always find a quirk or think well, if this guy had what this other guy had, he’d be perfect.

I believe that God doesn’t want us living like this. He wants us to depend on him. He wants us to put our complete faith in him that his timing is completely perfect. It’s hard to live that way though in the world of instance gratification. Sometimes I think that oh, I’ll just pray for that real quick and then walah and I’ll have it. Often time that leaves me very disappointed and will question God. Over the years I have been able to learn to trust more. As you have more and more experiences with God and experiencing his goodness you sort of begin to understand his timing a bit better. Sometimes something that happened in the past didn’t make sense at the time but then another event occurs and all of a sudden the timing with the previous event all makes sense, fitting just perfectly in place just like a puzzle piece does in a puzzle. You do not see the entire picture of the puzzle until it is complete. That is a lot like how God works. You truly don’t understand everything, but God sees the entire picture and knows it is perfect. Take a moment to reflect on some of these verses below about waiting and timing:

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)

Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. Psalm 27:14 (NLT)

For there is a time and a way for everything, even when a person is in trouble. Ecclesiastes 8:6 (NLT)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: a day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. 2 Peter 3:8 (NLT)

My final note is this. I hope that you find some inspiration from my blog and are able to draw closer to God through it as a result. It’s funny, I worked on a few potential first posts first, but never felt like they were good enough for my first post. However, after a lot of time working through writer’s block and what I thought were not good enough posts I finally landed on altering one of my initial ideas and landed on this post about perfect moments. What a relief! Here is to my first post and to hopefully many more!

You are amazing, you are brave. You set such a wonderful example of doing something meaningful, and inspirational. I love that you responded to His call, that you leaned into discomfort and put this out there. It is great … there’s much more ahead of you.
